Chocolate Chip Macadamia Nut Pie

Forget the crust and bake this in a ceramic pie plate for a custard dessert

1 pre-baked 9 inch pie shell, optional
3 eggs
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped macadamia nuts
2/3 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. If using the baked pie shell, sprinkle the nuts and chocolate chips in it and set aside. If making a custard dessert, scatter the nuts and chips over the bottom of the dish and set aside. In a batter bowl, whisk together the eggs and brown sugar very well. Add remaining ingredients and pour into pie shell or dish. Bake about 35 minutes or until filling is set and golden brown.
