Pecan Pie

!/2 cup unsalted butter
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons real vanilla extract
3 large eggs
3 tblespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1/2 cup pecan halves
1 9 inch unbaked pie shell

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Soften butter 30 seconds on half power in microwave. Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla, eggs, flour, salt, and buttermilk. Add the chopped pecans and pour into unbaked pie shell. Arrange the halves on top. Bake 1 1/2 hours until filling sets like custard. Cool before cutting.
